Queen Esther's request for fasting and prayer
Read again the story of queen Esther in the book of Esther chapters 4 and 5. When queen Esther learned of Haman's plot to kill the Jews, she asked the Jews of Susa to fast with her for three days. In the old testament fasting was always accompanied by prayer and by calling this fast, Esther was asking the Jews to pray for God's help when she was going to see the king. After that she went to see the king to intercede for her people and the outcome of this was that the Jews were saved.
The key vers in these two chapter is in Esther 4:16 (NKJV) "“Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!”
